This is our simple take on this adaptogenic drink that we have incorporated into our routine. Reishi mushroom has so many benefits and to learn more you can click here. There are many forms of this drink out on the market today, so we decided to share our simple at home version. But if you are new to adaptogens then we do recommend you start of in small doses to see how your body response. Reishi is very bitter, so this recipe is great for a beginners, because you can always adjust to taste.

This drink really hits the spot on a chilly night, (served warm)

  • 1/2-1 tbsp- Organic cocoa powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp- Organic Coconut sugar (adjust to taste)
  • **Optional add 1 scoop Vital Proteins collagen powder.
  • Warm up some milk and add to your blender, we prefer using any plant base milk.

Blend up and enjoy! Really hope you all give this a try at home and let us know how it goes 🙂

Matcha Tea

Hello Friends,

We’ve been drinking matcha tea for many years now, there are so many benefits to drinking matcha I will link an article here where you can read up on it. We both enjoy the cleaner taste of while still getting the caffeine in, instead of having a cup of coffee which we find can be a little too heavy at times. (We still do enjoy coffee too)

Matcha is just great hot, in a latte, or ice-cold it’s just another alternative when you aren’t in the coffee mood. We do not drink Matcha with any sugar in it, and that’s really key for us to not have the unnecessary sugar added to our day unlike with coffee where we prefer a little bit of sweetness added. We don’t really prefer it in our matcha.

We’ve tried out a few brands and have found only a couple that we really like to repurchase. One of our favorites has to be Ippodo Tea. But honestly, it can be quite costly if you drink it on a daily basis like we do. Another brand that we like that is Mizbuba Tea Co. we find them to be more affordable, but never lacking in quality if you’re interesting in purchasing I will link their website for you, you can also read up more on the company. We also wanted to share a discount code we found through their Instagram, which we weren’t sure if it would still be valid, so I emailed with the company and they said it should be good from here on out. For 10% off all orders use: InstaTeaTime

We always make sure to use this discount when we place an order extra savings is always nice. We are not affiliates by any means just really enjoy their matcha.

We’ve been enjoying matcha simply lately, we got this idea from LeefromAmerica’s Instagram check her out we love her content. This is a super simple, easy no need to boil hot water or whisking involved way to enjoy your matcha.

Directions to simple ice cold matcha:

  1. Take a jar that you have a lid to, we just used a good ol’ mason jar.

2. Place 1 tsp. of matcha powder in, then place a few ice cubes into jar (please put however much you like of both). Fill 2/3 jar with filtered water,

3. Lastly shake vigorously until you see no lumps of matcha, and boom it’s done and ready for your enjoyment. It should be nice and frothy at the top.

4. I then fill the rest of the jar up with more filtered water after shaking, (having a bit of space at the top helps it become nice and foamy.)

Please feel free to add stevia drops as we do once in while, or your favorite milk. We’ve been enjoying Oat milk a lot lately, but we also reach for the unsweetened macadamia nut milk also.

Thanks so much for reading hope you all give this a try and enjoy!

May 2018 Snack favorites

Hello friends!

Now that the month of May is coming to an end. We wanted to share the snacks/treats we’ve been loving as of lately.

1. Smart Sweets Gummy Bears

These gummy bears help curve our sweet tooth without the guilt! I will link off their websites FAQ page. This bag is about palm size and comes in a sour or fruity flavor, I think they have more, but these are the only ones they had at our wholefoods. More options are available on their website. These are sweetened with stevia which is an amazing natural sweetener. Available on their website and at Wholefoods stores! Give them a try.

2. Dahlicious Lassi Organic – Alphonso Mango

If you’re a fan of yogurt kefirs or mango lassi drinks than you must try this! This taste just like a mango lassi, but loaded with tons of probiotics. This is one of our favorite ways to start off the mornings when we’re in a rush, just poor some into a glass and enjoy. We’ve only been able to find this at Wholefoods Markets. If you’re able to find this we suggest you give it a try.

3. Trail Nuggets PRO – Peanut butter & Cocoa

We’ve been on the search for protein bars that don’t contain a bunch of unknown ingredients these have the cleanest ingredients that we’ve been able to find so far. The ingredients are simple just: Dates, Peanuts, Pea Protein, Cocoa, Peanut Flour, Water, Coconut Sugar, Salt. We like to bring these on hikes or just keep some at work in the office just anywhere really. We by these by the box at Trader Joes I think its $17.99 for a 12 count.

4. Lundberg Organic Brown Rice Cakes

These rice cakes are super convenient to have and we like to snack with them alone or use it as our toast for an avocado toast with an egg on top. Also we have topped it with a bit of peanut or almond butter, bananas and some local honey that we use to combat our allergies. We’ve been able to find these at our local Raley’s, Trader Joe’s, & Wholefoods.

Thank you for reading! hope you enjoyed.

Please let us know if you’re able to try these snacks. Also we would love any snack recommendations as well 🙂

Top Products April 2018

Hello Friends!

Back with another Top products for 2018, keep reading to learn about a few of our favorite products that we’ve been loving lately.

Organic Wool Dryer Balls

These are great, we’ve been having to run our dryer a lot longer lately, and when we purchased these bad boys and it really helped with that drying time. Our dryer is not the greatest and we are looking to investing in a new one. But for now, these have really helped cut the drying time in half. It’s also better for the environment than using individual dryer sheets, because you can put essential oils in these wool balls and it adds a nice light scent to each load. We purchased ours on amazon, they have many options available.

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant Geranium Flower – Sensitive Skin Formula

We been loving this deodorant for the both of us, on us individually it smells so different. (Your body’s Ph balance has a lot to do with it) Its super light and a little goes a long way. If you enjoy a light floral almost jasmine scent you will like this, on top of that its a sensitive skin formula which is nice because the skin under the arms can be a very picky area when it comes to introducing new products.

Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Bar Soap – Eucalyptus, Peppermint and Rose.

Dr. Bronner’s always has a way of making it on to our lists, we absolutely love the bar soaps in particular. We go through these like crazy, some of our favorites happen to be Eucalyptus, peppermint and rose. The unscented baby version is really awesome for children with sensitive and eczema prone skin my nephew’s skin has really improved with the use of this mild soap. Available at Trader Joe’s/ whole foods and Target other Drugstores. Their liquid soaps last forever, and they are very concentrated so dilution is key.

Thayers Witch Hazel- Alcohol Free Toner (Rose Petal)

We like to use this as a toner, and to spot treat itchy bug bites. Witch Hazel is extremely calming, and helps a lot with the itching when we get bug bites which Colleen suffers from most of the time. As a toner it helps calm the skin’s redness during break outs. You can pick this up at your local Target and drugstores.

That’s it for this edtion of Top Products hope you all enjoyed and hopefully it gave some of you some ideas. Please share any products you guys love, we would really love to hear and recommendations.

As always thank you for reading 🙂

Top Products #2

Hi Friends!

Here is our second installment to our Top Products series, these are products we’ve been trying out and really enjoying. Keep reading to see what we’ve been into.

  1. First up we have this awesome STASHER BAGS, these reusable bags are plastic free platinum silicone food storage bags. These bags have been really convenient to have around not only can they be used for storing food items but also works well for travel we put our head phones and charging cables to keep them all in one place nice and neat. You can use these bags to cook in (a method called sous vide) Click here for a review we found, freeze food, pack picnic items, pack lunch, microwave safe, dishwasher safe. Stasher claims a reuse up to 3000+ times. The pinch and seal bags are super convenient and better for our environment of course.

We highly recommend trying them out if you think it suits your life style. Each cost around $11.99 usd each which sounds crazy but its really an investment. Atleast that’s how we viewed it upon purchasing it ourselves.

2. This CANNON MX492 wi-fi printer, honestly this is just the cheapest basic version they carried at Best Buy here in the states, priced around $60 usd this thing is amazing. We feel as though we had been living in the dark ages without it. Printing, just became so much more easier. I’m sure many of you already have wifi printers, and yes we are very late, of course we do not like to print unnecessary items because in our opinion is very wasteful we only print the things we need to have physical copies of verses digital. But somethings do require printing and we are thankful it has become less of a hassle since our phones are connected to our emails, we can just pop on our phone and turn on the printer and effortlessly print that item as needed. Instead of before having to get out our laptop wait for it to turn on and load fuss around with cords while rummaging through our emails to finally being able to print that one item.

3. Travel Wise Packing squares, these have made us not dread packing for trips. With these everything is separated out by category his, hers, pants, socks, underwear, sleep wear, tops ect. We are now able to pack loads more while keeping it all really organized. We picked these up on amazon $22 usd for a 5 piece set they have a wide selection to choose from, but they carry them at Target also. These aren’t the best quality but they get the job done, and that is all we ask for.  If you struggle with packing like us before then you will appreciate these trust us.

4. La Croix, unsweetened, 0% sodium, flavored sparkling water. Price ranges from $3-5 usd for a pack of 8. We’ve been going through cans of this like crazy for a long time. Its just nice to have something fresh and bubbly to gulp down without being sugary. We are thinking of investing in a soda stream just to use for sparkling water. As for now, we’ve been loving these for about over 2 years we always forget to keep the boxes to share with you all. Our top flavors have to me the cucumber blackberry, lemon, lime we would say all of the flavors are pretty good. But those are just the flavors we gravitate towards. These are widely available in your local supermarkets, target and sometimes gas stations. They are everywhere, believe me. If for some reason you can’t seem to find them, They should be available on amazon and jet.com.Image result for master brew kombucha pineapple peach

5. Kombucha, which is a fermented tea drink made from all different types of fruits, veggies and herbs it is very acidic tasting which is not a flavor everyone will like, but we do enjoy. We have a couple of bottles about 2-4 times a week just depending, and yes they are not the cheapest thing to buy so we appreciate every drop a bottle can range anywhere from $3-7 usd just depending on the kind, size and where you are purchasing. But there are so many benefits for gut health and your health in general if you want to know more click here. We always forget to save our old bottles of kombucha, but we wanted to share on here some of our favorite brands.

  • Kevita, Master Brew, is one of our favorites lately our go to brand, sold at Target, gas stations, local markets. Try their pinepple peach, ginger and really any flavor.
  • Kauai Juice Co, We enjoyed some local kombucha brewers in Kauai Hawaii they would probably be hands down our favorite of all time. Try it out if you are ever on the island, you will not regret it. They also have so many other options like smoothie, milks, juices ect. Unfortunately the last time we had them was in April of 2015, but all the more reason for us to go back.
  • Trader Joe’s, They carry some good kombuchas don’t quite remember the names exactly but you will see it in the refrigerator section. Try out their mint tea flavor.
  • GT’s Kombucha or Synergy, They were probably one of the first brands of kombucha in major markets. Try out their lavendar and mango flavors.

Honestly, not all are made equally. Just like with anything in the world. So we recommend trying them all out to see which ones you enjoy. That is exactly the approach we take.

Hope you all enjoyed catching up on all of our favorites, Please let us know down in the comments if you’ve had experiences with any of the products listed good or bad. As always thank you guys for stopping by and reading 🙂

Instax Mini Photo Collage

Hello friends!

We are back with a great photo display/storage idea for you all. These days Polaroid cameras and film have been discontinued and have limited availability to us the consumer. Fuji Film has made a come up with its line of Instax Photography cameras. Many people we know have these little convenient cameras, they are widely available online at Amazon, Michael’s (craft stores), Target, Best Buy all carry these. We will link off to Fuji Films Website where you can see all the available cameras and their variations. We’ll also insert a picture for you all to see what ours looks like.

These photos make cute little mementos to keep or give to friends and family. We love them because they are one shot, and you can’t retake the photo over 50 times, and choose which one you like (Really you could if you were willing to waste some film) anyway for this reason is why we also love disposable cameras, because you never know what you’re gonna get until its developed. Now-a-days we find ourselves and others so caught up in how the picture will look for social media platforms, instead of just enjoying the moment with our friends, family and loved ones. Please go check them out if you are interested.

Left to Right is the Mini film, Instax Camera, and photo.

We have had this Instax Mini 25 for about 3 years now, and we taken it with us on trips and events which means we have collected many snapshots.. honestly they started to become a bit too much to keep track of. Until, recently we were doing some spring cleaning we decided that we needed to do something about all of these pictures that were just lying around, we would literally find them in the most random places like our cars in our dresser drawers, kitchen counter ect. the list goes on and on..

Our solution was to create a collage of them and display it as one big picture. Which worked out really well. I mean we weren’t able to fit all of them into one frame, but we are certainly planning on buying more frames to frame as many as we can.

We chose a frame bigger than our cat as you can see, and just arranged them into a format we liked.

This is super simple and easy, and you will get an awesome piece to hang anywhere you like in your home.

You will need a frame of your choice, photos, and tape.

First thing we did was find a frame so our go to spots were Marshalls, Tj Max, Target, Ross, and Homegoods we went searching for the right style of frame for us and found ours at Homegoods for about $12 usd which is not a bad deal for the size and style of frame we wanted. This frame had a picture of a flower in it, but we took it out and flipped it around to display a white background for us to arrange our photos. Once you have got the right placement down, you can move on to taping the photos onto the white background.

TIP: Stick the tape onto your shirt or pants before folding it onto itself, this will take away some tackiness of the tape.

Then place the white background with the taped photos into the frame and close it up and pick your favorite spot to display the master piece.

Another tip that we like to do is label each photo whether it be with the date that the photo was taken or the people in it, or the occasion. We just like to know so that when we look back on it we can see where we were at during that year of our lives.

That was it guys, we know it’s so simple but wanted to share with you all in case you have some Instax mini photos that you just don’t know what to do with. This is a great affordable way to showcase some great memories. Please give this a try, and let us know if you did we would love to see pictures. Thanks for reading until next time! 🙂

Simple Pickled Chiles and Carrots(Chiles en Vinagre)

Easy pickled chilis and carrot (Mexican Condiment)

Hello all, being that Colleen and I live in California we have an abundance of Mexican food. Myself being Mexican American and Dutch my family has many recipes and I wanted to take the time to share our take on this traditional pickled chilies and carrot recipe or (chiles en vinagre.) This simple condiment pairs well with chorizo and eggs, nachos, burritos, tacos, quesadillas, soups, and anything that you want that extra kick in. They sell canned versions of this, but we thought that we would share our easy, clean and healthy version of it with you all.

You will need the following:
  1. 1 cup – White vinegar (apple cider will work)
  2. 1/2 cup – Water
  3. 1/2 tbsp – Coconut sugar or agave nectar
  4. 1/2 tbsp – Sea salt
  5. 1 1/2 tbsp – Grape seed oil (Olive Oil or vegetable)
  6. 2-3  Bay leaves
  7. 1/2 tsp – Coriander pods
  8. 1/2 tsp – Oregano
  9. 1/2 tsp – Thyme
  10. 1/2 tsp – Black pepper or (pepper corns)
  11. 4  Jalapenos (or your chili of choice)
  12. 4-5  Medium Carrots (depending on size)
  13. 1 Garlic garlic clove
  14. 1/2 Small white onion
  15. Glass jar for storage

First off we will start by slicing the carrots, jalapeno, and onions on a bias, we like to cut them into various sizes so that you have options to choose from when eating. (Mostly on the thinner side) To control the heat you can de-seed or as we like to say gut the peppers to your liking. (For ours we kept all the seeds.)

Next you will want to prepare all your seasonings.

Take a medium-sized pot place it on medium heat, add in your oil and carrots. You will want to stir it constantly for about 2-3 minutes.

Once the carrots are about half way cooked (about 2-3 minutes) you will want to add in the jalapenos, again stirring consistently for 3 minutes.

After the chilies have been cooking for a bit you will want to add in the garlic clove and onions. Saute until onions start to become soft but not yet translucent.

Once onions are soft, add vinegar and water. Let this simmer for 2 minutes. Still stirring.

When the liquids have cooked down, add in your seasonings except the salt.

Saute and incorporate all seasonings thoroughly. Next place the lid on for about 5 minutes stirring every couple of minutes. At this point you can add your salt. And close the lid for about 1 more minute.

You can taste and depending on your preference add more sugar, or salt.

Once cooled place into a glass jar, we found that using a pair of small tongs is the cleanest way to place the veggies into the jar. Place all the liquid in also. Then refrigerate and wait for about 24 hours to eat. I would say you can stored it in the fridge for about 3-6 weeks, although it never lasts that long in our house.

This is the completion of this simple recipe, hope you all get the chance to try it out. It is definitely a staple in our home. It makes a wonderful gift to give anyone you know that loves spicey foods, you can just tie a nice bow around it and wa-la. There’s no need to buy it canned, when it’s so easy to make at home and you know each ingredient that goes into it.

We enjoyed this delicious topping with some enchiladas the other night. Enjoy!

Oxbow Market, Napa California

The Oxbow Market – Napa California

This is our second addition to our series -Local Business We Frequent-. This market is similar to the Anaheim packing district if you have ever visited. Just think of it on a much smaller scale. We often take day trips out here to grab some good food, or pick up some things we need for the house. It’s location is on a bend of a river, hence the name Oxbow. There are so many things to explore in this market. Here we wanted to share our favorite stops, and just some general information. Happy reading!

Top 2 shops we visit inside the market:

  1. Three Twins ice cream

Our favorite ice cream brand, we love their flavor combinations their wholesome organic ingredients, is what brings them to the top of our list. We know it’s not available everywhere, but they do carry this brand in certain super markets so here’s a link to their website to find a location near you. Our favorite flavors are Dad’s Cardamom, Banana Nut Confetti, Land of Milk and Honey, and Mint Confetti. Highly suggest to try this if you get the chance.

2. Whole Spice Napa Valley

This little spice shop offers such variety, we often come here to pick up all kinds of spices/ blends. This shop carries anything from whole chamomile buds, lamb seasoning blend, many curries from different regions, Mexican mole blends, and their own house blends. If you love to cook and try new foods like we do, spice shops are a beautiful thing. On this particular day, we picked up some curry blends (Japanese and Madrag), and we are in the midst of prepping a recipe to share with you all. Also, one of our traditions when we go out shopping- small shops is to pick up quality handmade soap bars. So we also stopped by The Olive Press and grabbed a new artisan soap bar, this one is in Rose-milk.

The Oxbow market offers a variety of places to eat and enjoy from burgers, to indoor restaurant seating, a butcher, fresh produce, fresh fish, coffee bar, cupcakes, pastries, baguettes, book shop, oyster bar and a fresh juice bar. Here’s some pictures we snapped to give you a sense of the place. If you find yourself in wine country it is a must see spot forsure.

With the many attractions close by, its even located next to the Napa Valley Wine Train station. Pay a visit if you enjoy local produce and supporting small shops. Hope you all enjoyed!

Local businesses we frequent

Top Products #1

Hello all, we wanted to share some of our favorite random house hold, health, gadgets, cat, products. These are the things we have been loving.

This list is in no particular order, so here we go.

  1. This hanging planter we got at a yard sale in our neighborhood maybe a year ago. It came with some succulents but they were mostly dying. We planted new succulents and they seem to be really thriving in our California rainy season. During the summer months they seem to shrivel up even when they are watered periodically. Anyway we have been loving seeing them a bit more lively during this season. Plus we don’t have to water them!

2. We love Dr. Bronner’s products, because they have minimal ingredients. This pure castille soap can be use for many things such as cleaning and disinfection of piercings, cleaning brushes, shampoo, face wash, veggie wash and so on. These soaps come in many varieties, the one we use is the baby-mild version. (You can find large selections at CVS or Walgreen’s ) Castille soap comes concentrated so there are many  dilutions you can click-here for more information. All of their soaps come in soap bar options. Which I prefer to use on my makeup brushes and beauty blender ect. Raphy is a diesel mechanic which means his hands get really beat up, and greasy. This liquid castille soap is what he uses to degrease his hands (dilution is 1/2 liquid soap and 1/2 water) this works best for him.

3. Dr Bronner’s peppermint organic Lip balm, this lip balm is the best we’ve ever had. We like how emollient it feels on our lips. The ingredients are really clean. Though we have noticed a change in their formula we still love this. The old packing use to say Dr. Bronner’s MAGIC all in one lip balm, the ingredients are still the same but the feel on the lips is quite different. Overall we still gravitate towards this always.

4. Method – Ginger Mango laundry detergent, this detergent smells amazing. To us it does not smell like ginger at all. Maybe a really sweet lovely mango, honestly it is super hard to describe. Go to your local target and open the cap to smell it for yourselves, you will not regret it. We believe Method products are sold only at Target but we could be completely wrong, but we have only purchased them from there. We like this concentrated version of laundry detergent so far we’ve done about 20-22 full loads and it is lasting pretty long.

5. Method – Cucumber All purpose cleaner, we were looking for a simple house hold cleaner and decided to try this one out since the laundry detergent was so amazing. We like it so far, and use it to clean the cats messy eating mats, or any spills that occur on the kitchen table, bathroom ect. The scent is ok, not super strong but clean smelling.

6. Squeeze it – We picked this up at Bed Bath and Beyond and it has changed our tooth paste game. By that we mean it lasts so much longer and it does not allow for any waste of the product. I would recommend this for everyone! Super simple idea and completely functional and easy to use. A definite must have in our household.

7. Red Fuel – Portable charger this is the gadget we’ve been using a lot and yes there are a ton of them out there on the market we received this one from Raphy’s work. This charger allows up to 2 full charges per device. We both use it for our phones, and any other accessories like blue tooth speakers. This device comes in handy for us, we like to keep it charged up in our car or our back packs for those times you are out and about and need a charge.

8. Kind Wine – Soy candles  these candles have been adding the most lovely fragrance to our room as of late. We’ve really been enjoying this scent for the past couple of months. Since these are soy candles they burn slower meaning longer lasting, and they burn cleaner. Soy candles are our choice but this company takes the extra mile being environmentally friendly using repurposed wine bottles for each candle. This fragrance is Pomegranate Moscato which sounds super sweet, but it’s surprisingly more on the citrusy side in our opinion. We picked up these candles from HomeGoods, and World Market Cost Plus. If you get the chance to pick up some of these candles please give them a whiff.

9. Amazon’s Alexa – Honestly, we never though we would enjoy her as much as we do. She is very helpful, from creating shopping lists to playing music on que, finding movie times, checking the weather and traffic conditions, to being our alarm clock, setting timers, to our personal Amazon shopper. She can’t answer as many questions as Siri is able to. But honestly worth the $50 usd in our opinion because we use her everyday. When we create a shopping list we are able to view/add/delete each item on the Alexa app. Which has been helping us not forget things at the store now-a-days.

10. Cat Tower – Don’t know the brand name unfortunately, but Marshalls is where we found it. Our cats are very picky with cat toys, and scratch pad/towers. They are very hard to please. But we picked up this tower at Marshalls and it is the only one they like. We were extremely hesitant to purchase it, and were almost on the verge of returning it. Then all of a sudden one day we found our cats scratching the pad, and sitting on top of the tower. We were super happy to see they seemed to like it.

If you enjoyed this post please comment down below and let us know if you have tried out any of these products or if you have any recommendations also we would love to know.
